Stars such as Grace Kelly, Sofia Richie Grainge, and Meghan Markle have made waves with their floor-sweeping veils.

See eight of the most memorable celebrity veils of all time, including one that measured 75 feet, below.

We’ve seen our fair share of extravagant wedding dresses, from Gwen Stefani’s dip-dyed ballgown to Kate Middleton’s dress, which notably included a nine-foot train trailing behind it. But, if you ask us, it’s not just wedding dresses that deserve all the commotion. The coordinating veil is also often a moment unto itself.

The headpiece Priyanka Chopra wore to her nuptials, for example, spanned a staggering 75 feet—and it was originally supposed to be even longer! Meanwhile, Priscilla Presley’s design of choice was short and tiered, all the better to match her voluminous bouffant. And, when Kourtney Kardashian tied the knot with Travis Barker in 2022, the reality star stunned in a floor-sweeping, 10-foot-long veil with a hand-embroidered portrait of the Virgin Mary inspired by one of Barker’s tattoos.

Whether it’s a matter of length, design, or the number of pearls and gemstones painstakingly sewn on, there are plenty of factors that go into making a veil that are worth a closer look. To that end, scroll below to see eight of the most memorable celebrity bridal veils in pop culture history, from 1956 to now.

Over the past 70 years, Grace Kelly’s gorgeous wedding look has served as the source material for similar outfits commissioned by other A-list brides, from Kate Middleton to Paris Hilton. The Princess of Monaco wore a tulle veil trimmed with rose point lace and thousands of seed pearls, as well as two small lovebirds, according to WWD.

What Priscilla Presley’s veil lacked in length, it more than made up for in volume. A multi-tiered veil and sparkling tiara sat perched atop her towering bouffant. According to Vogue, Presley shopped for her look under the alias “Mrs. Hodge,” and sometimes donned a blonde wig for privacy. She ultimately fell in love with a floor-length chiffon number from department store Westwood. “It wasn’t extravagant, it wasn’t extreme—it was simple and to me, beautiful,” Presley said.

Princess Diana’s 25-foot train broke the record for the longest in royal history. Her veil, however, stretched even longer: at roughly 40 feet, it was crafted with 153 yards (or 459 feet) of tulle. The headpiece was hand-stitched by Peggy Umpleby of Hand & Lock and strewn with 10,000 micro pearls.

Meghan Markle worked closely with Claire Waight Keller—the then-artistic director of Givenchy—on her timeless boatneck gown and 16-foot-long veil. Markle asked for the silk veil to be embroidered with flowers to represent the 53 countries of the Commonwealth, the wintersweet bloom (which grows at Kensington Palace), and the California poppy, an ode to her home state. In a documentary about Queen Elizabeth, Queen of the World, Markle revealed that her husband “was really over the moon to find out that I would make this choice for our day together.”

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas tied the knot in 2018 at the Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, India. Her 75-foot-veil was the result of a compromise she made with Ralph Lauren. “Ralph wanted a 100-foot train ‘cause the walk in the palace to the altar was so long and they were like, ‘We have to fill that space up,’” Chopra told Vogue. “And I was like, ‘I can’t walk with 100 feet stitched to my head.’ I said 50 and then we settled on 75.” In an Instagram post captioned, “And forever starts now... ❤️ @nickjonas,” Chopra shared a glimpse of the sweeping veil.

Lily Collins walked down the aisle in a stunning custom Ralph Lauren creation. But rather than pair it with a traditional veil, the Emily in Paris star wore a hooded cloak crafted from Calais-Caudry lace, a weave made exclusively by master lace makers in northern France since the late 19th century. The cloak was covered in glittering Swarovski-beaded micro flowers and silk organza petals.

Standing at the altar in May 2022, Kourtney Kardashian wore a lingerie-inspired minidress and jaw-dropping cathedral veil by Dolce & Gabbana. “When @dolcegabbana suggested putting Travis’s head tattoo of the Virgin Mary on the handmade lace veil with the words from his tattoo: family, loyalty, respect underneath, I got chills and knew how special that felt,” Kardashian shared on Instagram.
