Cate Blanchett looks unrecognizable with brunette hair and choppy bangs in first-look photos for her alien comedy film Alpha Gang.

Her brown shoulder-length hairstyle is a striking departure from her signature platinum-blonde bob.

Blanchett will star as the leader of a group of aliens disguised as a 1950s biker gang, complete with leather outfits.

Cate Blanchett is ditching her signature platinum-blonde bob—temporarily.

In a photo obtained by The Hollywood Reporter on September 4, Blanchett debuted a new dark brunette hair transformation that may be her lengthiest hairstyle in over a year.

The photo features the Academy Award-winning actress looking unrecognizable while in character for her upcoming alien comedy film, Alpha Gang. The movie, directed by filmmakers David Zeller and Nathan Zeller, uses absurdist humor to tell the story of a group of aliens who visit Earth while disguised as a 1950s biker gang.

For her role as the leader of the misfit group, Blanchett rocked a shaggy brown lob that stretched down past her shoulders, and a set of choppy micro-bangs held in place by a single bobby pin. Her hair-and-makeup team completed the edgy look with thick black eyeliner, bold mascara, blue eyeshadow, and a dark pink lip that adds a severity to her formidable extraterrestrial persona.

As edgy as her glam, Blanchett’s ‘50s biker ensemble includes a black leather jacket with a studded belt and collar layered over a white top. Though partially obscured, the back of the jacket also seems to feature the name of the alien biker gang spelled out in silver studs.

While the brunette look is temporary, Blanchett’s chin-length hair hasn’t been this long since her role as Kathryn St. Jean in her 2025 spy thriller Black Bag. For the role, the actress donned a brown wig with long waves that cascaded six inches past her shoulders. The last time Blanchett’s natural hair extended that far was in June 2024, right before she debuted a jaw-grazing French bob at the Armani Privé show in Paris. In 2025, she opted for an even more dramatic look, cropping her hair into a pixie cut.

Alpha Gang also stars Dave Bautista, Lily-Rose Depp, and Riley Keough, and is set to premiere at the Telluride Film Festival on September 5.
