Costco Just Made a Major Change—and Fans Say It’s ā€˜Super Disappointing’

Despite Costco’s stock of absurdly large baked goods and our favorite heat-and-eat meals that’ll feed a crowd, it’s more than a bulk grocery warehouse. It is also home to kitchenware with a designer look and has a food court that’s better than any drive-thru.

But beyond the food and home essentials we know and love, the members-only store has someĀ amazing featuresĀ many shoppers don’t take advantage of. Whether you need a moving van, your carpets cleaned, or are planning your next family vacation, Costco can help with that—and help you save money in the process.

Almost 10 years ago, Costco debuted another money-saving initiative: Costco Next. It’s a program that lets members buy directly from select brands, including luggage and cookware, at an exclusive Costco price.

But it looks like this beloved Costco benefit is no longer available. Here’s what we know.

Costco Next Program Has Been Discontinued

The discount shopping program, which sold products from Viking, Caraway, and an array of leather goods, skincare, and even e-bikes, is no longer active. The website and Costco app extension, which required members to log in with their Costco member number, appear to be discontinued.

Fans recently noticed that the website (www.costconext.com) was redirecting them to a customer service page that read, ā€œAccess to Costco Next store fronts is no longer available.ā€

Shoppers were shocked to learn that one of the best discount programs had been discontinued without prior notice.

ā€œIt’s weird they didn’t release any news about this,ā€ said one Redditor. ā€œOdd they cut the program without an announcement,ā€ commented another.

Loyal fans of the program who have used it since its inception, or built shopping routines around Costco Next products, have taken to social media to voice their complaints.

ā€œThis is super disappointing,ā€ wrote one Costco Next user. ā€œThe prices from many of these brands were really good.ā€

Another said, ā€œThat’s unfortunate. The deals were great! Especially when the deals had sales on top!ā€

Despite the lack of direct communication with members,Ā the redirect pageĀ clearly states that customers can refer to the provided list of vendors for returns or additional questions. Additionally, for any eligible returns and warranty inquiries, Costco asks you to contact the vendor directly.

Some Reddit users said that when they contacted specific Costco Next vendors’ customer support to inquire about the program’s disappearance, customer service representatives said they were honoring their Costco Next pricing through Sept. or offering similar deals on products previously offered through the program. While a discount or price adjustment isn’t guaranteed, if you were in the market for a Costco Next product and can no longer add it to your cart, you can ask specific vendors for the best remedy for the discontinuation. If you have remaining questions or issues, you can reach out to Costco’s customer service.

While some Costco members are sad to see this program go, others weren’t aware it existed.

ā€œI don’t even know what a Costco Next is,ā€ commented one Facebook user.

It might have been the best program no one used—or at least only a limited number of shoppers did—leading to the belief that it wasn’t being used enough to stick around.

One Reddit user also commented that there was serious confusion with returns, as customers were trying to return Costco Next products to Costco, rather than the original vendor.

No matter the reason, the program seems to be gone for now, with no current plans to bring it back. But who knows? After enough protest, Costco brought back its fan-favorite chocolate chips, so maybe shoppers can revive this program, too.
