Donald Trump dyes hair and looks more like dad Fred in his final years after makeover

Donald Trump's new look, which he debuted while boarding Air Force One at Joint Base Andrews for a weekend of golfing, has sparked online speculation over the revamped style and comparisons to his late father, Fred.

The president was photographed as he headed to Bedminster, New Jersey, with what appeared to be a new, darker color and less volume than he’s been seen with recently.

Trump’s signature coif has been making headlines recently as he’s crisscrossed the country. In Las Vegas, he appeared to have more volume to his style. In the weeks that followed, his blond hair color also seemed to shift, leading some to think that he was wearing a hairpiece.

Earlier this week, while speaking at the White House Rose Garden, Trump made it clear he was aware of the discourse, assuring the gathered guests that he wasn’t wearing a wig.

Recalling an event with Ohio U.S. Sen. Bernie Moreno at the Dayton International Airport in 2024, the president said: “I went up to the speaker, and it was blowing so hard."

"You know, for years, I had to suffer with people saying, ‘He wears a wig.’ I don’t wear a wig," he continued. "But that night, they found out I did not wear a wig because if you did, it was not gonna be on your head very long.”

Now, some are speculating the new look is an attempt to look like his late father, Fred Trump. "Trying to look more like Dad at death's door," one user on X wrote underneath a post on Trump's hair.

Another person posted: "Same color as Fred's when Fred was dying of dementia," referring to the president's dad.

"Donnie’s trying to emulate late-stage, dark toupee-wearing Fred Trump," someone else posted.

Fred Trump was a New York real estate developer who died in 1999 at age 93. Donald Trump wrote in his book, "The Art of the Deal," that his father inspired him to start his own career in real estate.

Michael Wolff, who has published a biography of Trump, claimed that the president’s hair requires extensive styling to maintain its appearance.

“I can tell you what’s... under Donald Trump’s hair,” he told host Joanna Coles on the Inside Trump’s Head podcast. “Nothing.”

Fred Trump's battle with dementia

Back in 2024, Fred Trump III, who is the son of Trump's late brother, Fred Trump Jr, published a book, "All in the Family: The Trumps and How We Got This Way", in which he detailed his family history of dementia.

And during an appearance on Sirius XM’s The Dean Obeidallah Show on Friday, the president's nephew said he is seeing indicators of dementia in the president, too.

Trump's nephew said his grandfather, the former president's father, died eight years after his own Alzheimer's diagnosis in 1999. He also mentioned other members of the family, including Trump's cousin, John Walters, who had dementia too, and drew comparisons about their behaviors and what he currently sees in Trump.

Trump III said during the show: "You know, Donald said, ‘Oh, my father was tiptop until the end.’ I can assure you that was not the case. I know what I saw in my grandfather.

He added, "Donald’s cousin, John Walters, had dementia. It runs in the family. He looks older. And I get it ... anybody who is in that office looks different than when they come out. But the things he’s spewing and the craziness, and he just can’t stick to a message. And he used to be able to stick to a message."

To support his argument, Trump III noted how the Republican nominee's campaign said his speech in North Carolina last week would focus on the economy, but said he failed to stay on topic. His comments come after the publication of his book, a damaging tell-all about the former president.
