Eva Longoria spoke exclusively to PEOPLE about her upcoming project, The Fifth Wheel, a comedic film she’s currently directing, while attending the Día de Muertos Gala on Oct. 27

Kardashian plays a “hot outsider” who disrupts a Las Vegas reunion for longtime high school friends

Eva Longoria is opening up about working with her longtime friend Kim Kardashian on the set of the upcoming movie, The Fifth Wheel.

During the Día de Muertos Gala at Universal Studios Backlot in California on Oct. 27, the Desperate Housewives star, 51, revealed to PEOPLE that the female-led comedy is in post-production.

The movie focuses on a group of high school best friends (Nikki Glaser, Fortune Feimster and Brenda Song) reconnecting in Las Vegas when a “hot outsider” — played by Kardashian, 46 — disrupts their weekend plans.

“We’re in post. We actually are locking this week, and we will be premiering in the spring of next year,” Longoria tells PEOPLE. “Very excited, so much fun. Kim is a dream. She’s such a good friend. To be able to do this with her was just so much fun.

“But Nikki Glaser, Fortune Feimster, Brenda Song, Will Ferrell, Casey Wilson, Kristen Wiig, 50 Cent, Jack Whitehall, we have such amazing actors in the film. And so, we had a really fun time,” she adds.

The Fifth Wheel is Longoria’s second directorial project, following her 2023 movie Flamin’ Hot, which chronicles the creation of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos.

When asked how she got through each day surrounded by funny people, Longoria says, “Let me tell you something. It was very hard to not have a good time every day.”

She previously described working on The Fifth Wheel as a “dream job” and revealed that the flick took just three months to film.

“It’s a big, unapologetically R-rated female comedy that feels modern and contemporary,” Longoria says.

According to a synopsis, the high school best friends are “forced to face their messy lives, bad decisions and unraveling friendships” after Kardashian’s character crashes their weekend in Vegas.

“Kim is the anchor of the movie,” Longoria previously told PEOPLE. “We just had a blast. Kim and I have been friends for 25 years, and when I got the job, she said, ‘Oh, thank God Eva knows I’m funny.’ ”

“And she is — she’s so funny,” she continued. “I cannot wait for the world to see how great she is in this movie and hopefully spark more female comedies.”

While reflecting on her favorite moments on set, Longoria added, “Just sitting and kiki-ing with Kim and everyone. Nikki is so profound. She’s incredibly insightful and wise beyond her years. I loved just sitting and talking with them. Fortune is just a light — such a joy to be around. Every day, we were laughing nonstop.”
