Arthur Marshall, a former Denver Broncos and New York Giants receiver, has died at age 57 following a stomach cancer diagnosis

Former NFL receiver Arthur Marshall, who played for the Denver Broncos and New York Giants, has died. He was 57.
The star player’s death comes after he was diagnosed with stomach cancer, local Georgia outlet FOX 54 reported.
An obituary for Marshall described him as a husband, father, grandfather and “man of faith whose life was defined by his love for God, his family and the people around him.”

Originally from Hephzibah, Ga., Marshall began his football career at the University of Georgia, making 39 receptions for 524 total yards during his senior season for the Bulldogs.
Marshall was signed with the Broncos after going undrafted in the 1992 NFL Draft.
One of the most memorable moments of his professional career came during his rookie season. During a game against the Dallas Cowboys, Marshall completed an 81-yard touchdown pass to teammate Cedric Tillman, tying him with Gary Hammond in 1974 for the longest pass completion by a non-quarterback in NFL history.

Though the record was equaled again in 2003 by Pittsburgh Steelers punter Josh Miller, no other non-quarterback has achieved a longer pass completion.
By 1994, Marshall was picked up by the Giants in a trade, and he spent three seasons with the New York team before closing out his career.
“When he touched the field, you knew he was on the field,” Daniel Dorsey, the current head coach at Marshall’s alma mater, Hephzibah High School in Georgia, told FOX 54. “He made a difference, whether it was offense, defense or special teams. He was just a special player all around.”

In his obituary, Marshall, who later moved to Sarasota, Fla., was remembered as someone who “carried strength and determination throughout his life” as an athlete — but “those who knew him best will remember him most for the size of his heart.”
“He was a giver by nature — generous with his time, love, encouragement and support. He genuinely cared for people and found joy in helping others,” the obituary said.
Marshall was also a husband to wife Lena, a father to Arthur and Aubern, a “proud” grandfather to six grandsons, and “a cherished bonus father to Giana and Alex.”
“Arthur enjoyed the simple moments just as much as the big ones,” his obituary continued. “He loved watching movies, spending time with his family, and taking peaceful evening strolls along the beach. His faith in God remained at the center of his life, and the love, generosity, and compassion he showed to others reflected that faith.”“He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and remembered in the hearts of everyone blessed to know him,” the obituary added.
