Fresh off Today’s trip to Ireland, Jones and Bush Hager spoke to PEOPLE exclusively about the best parts of traveling together this fall

Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones are enjoying some time on the road.

After returning from their trek to Ireland, the Today with Jenna & Sheinelle co-hosts headed off on another — much closer — trip: an official “Girls Getaway” at Cedar Lakes Estate in Port Jervis, N.Y., on Oct. 21 and 22.

“Traveling is when you get to know people in a different way, and I think when you go back into the workplace, it makes you better,” Jones, 48, tells PEOPLE while reflecting on Today’s busy fall schedule. “The whole team, we all felt that way. And as much as I loved the greenery of Ireland, we have greenery in upstate New York.”

The Girls Getaway, tickets for which sold out in a matter of hours, brought fans of the show together for two days of rest, relaxation and community.

The on-site activities included a sound bath, a nature walk, a cocktail hour and two panels — one led by Jones and Bush Hager, 44, and featuring Courteney Cox, and the other moderated by beauty editor Julee Wilson in conversation with Laura Geller and Cynthia Rowley.

“I think for me, when we sit down on the set, we have an intention to try to connect with people, whether it’s laughing or sometimes crying or everything in between. And last night, it was affirming to me that it is landing,” Jones says of seeing Today’s fourth hour resonate in real life as attendees arrived for the event.

She adds: “These women have come from all corners of the country — and Canada — and they’re really coming with one goal, and that’s just a fellowship [with each other].”

As for the friendship that Bush Hager and Jones share, the Read with Jenna founder tells PEOPLE that spending time beyond the studio with her co-host lets her see things in a whole new way.

“Sheinelle has the wonder of a child,” Bush Hager says, recounting the pair’s trip to Ireland. “I think [it’s] that type of wonder when you’re traveling with somebody to a different country that you’ve never been to. [She’s] somebody that sees the beauty in every single thing and takes a picture.”

As for Bush Hager? Jones just loves her vibe.

“I really like Jenna. I mean, I’ve always liked Jenna. I’ve always thought she was cool, but her vibration? I’m not a woo-woo person, but I just think she’s a cool chick, and she’s fun and she’s smart and she’s witty and I like being around her,” she says. “I always tell [my daughter] Clara, ‘When you hang around girls, you want to be with girls who lift you up and elevate your conversation and just make you feel better when you leave,’ and Jenna does that for me.”
