It is not a hidden fact that there are some standard beauty rules for the members of the royal family, especially when it comes to the women. These protocols come under extra scrutiny during their public engagements. Some of the primary ones include avoiding heavy makeup, sporting shorter nails, and preventing indulgence in any touch-up in the public eye. However, the reigning patriarch of the Royal family, King Charles, is also said to have his personal preferences when it comes to the beauty choices of the female Royal family members. His daughter-in-law, Kate Middleton, might have paid some extra attention to fulfill his wishes and continues to do so even in the current times.
In his 2023 memoir Spare, Prince Harry mentioned how his father has his own choices when it comes to the Royal beauty rules. Recalling an example, he penned how his now-wife Meghan Markle sported an extremely subtle look when she met the monarch for the first time.
Harry stated in the memoir, “Her hair was down, because I suggested she wear it that way. Pa likes it when women wear their hair down. Granny too. She often commented on Kate’s beautiful mane.”
Stressing the King’s dislike of heavy makeup, the Duke of Sussex penned, “Meg was wearing little makeup, which I’d also suggested. Pa didn’t approve of women who wore a lot.”
King Charles Has This Royal Beauty Preference For Women
According to a news report in the Hello! Magazine, apart from heavy makeup, King Charles is also said to be wary of Royal women opting to don a hairdo with their hair tied up, as he prefers them with their hair done downwards. A prime example of this is his wife, Queen Camilla, who is always seen with her hair down, much to the fondness of her husband.

Not only Camilla but the monarch’s elder daughter-in-law, Kate Middleton, is another important member of the Royal family who abides by this wish and is seen with her hair down in the majority of her public engagements. While the future Queen does have lovely locks, it has reportedly been slammed sometimes by Royal critics as monotonous and one-tone. However, it seems that Kate is focused on adhering to the wishes of her father-in-law when it comes to her hairdo.
The Sussexes Returned To The U.K. After Six Years
Meanwhile, the return of the Sussexes to the U.K. after almost six years might bring some tensions and drama in the Royal ecosystem. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly returned to the UK on August. 26, 2026, and are said to have set up base in the picturesque locale of the Cotswolds outside of London. Their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, will reportedly begin school here in September 2026.
While Harry and Meghan will not resume their former working Royal roles, a curiosity might loom over their meetings with the other Royal family members or whether they will be invited to any of the Royal events. While the Sussexes already had a reunion with King Charles and Queen Camilla in July 2026, it reportedly still seems extremely unlikely that Prince William and Kate Middleton will be willing to meet the Sussexes anytime soon, amid the rift still remaining intense.
