Shakira knows one thing about the first-ever FIFA World Cup Final halftime show: it’s going to be unlike anything fans have seen before.

During an appearance on The Capital Evening Show with Jimmy Hill that aired Wednesday, July 8, the Colombian superstar, 49, teased the blockbuster performance she’ll share with Madonna, BTS, Justin Bieber and Coldplay at the FIFA World Cup Final on July 19.

ā€œI played at the inauguration, and now I’m playing at the final,ā€ Shakira said, referring to her performance at the tournament’s opening ceremony. ā€œI’ve got to wrap my head around it, make it a little different from what I did at the inauguration.ā€

Her comments came one day after FIFA and Global Citizen announced that Bieber, 32, would join previously announced performers Shakira, Madonna, 67, and BTS for the inaugural FIFA World Cup Final halftime show at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Coldplay frontman Chris Martin is curating the landmark 11-minute performance.

The ā€œHips Don’t Lieā€ singer went on to tease the show’s unprecedented scale, noting that it will mark the first halftime performance in FIFA World Cup Final history.

ā€œIt’s going to be a shared halftime show,ā€ she said. ā€œIt’s going to be pretty historic, five amazing artists. Well, four amazing artists plus me.ā€

She also expressed hope that Martin, 49, won’t just be working behind the scenes. ā€œI really hope that Chris Martin is going to be singing too,ā€ she said.

As for what fans can expect when the global superstars finally take the stage together, Shakira admitted the performance is still taking shape.

ā€œWe’ll all get together and we’ll all figure it out how it’s gonna be, but I’m really curious,ā€ she said. ā€œI’m as curious as you are right now!ā€

The World Cup has long held a special place in Shakira’s career. After debuting the official tournament anthem ā€œWaka Waka (This Time for Africa)ā€ in 2010, the singer said the global sporting event has remained deeply personal.

ā€œI have this connection with [soccer] that seems unbreakable,ā€ she previously told PEOPLE in her recent cover story.

She continued, ā€œEvery World Cup is really magical, and I think this one is going to be all about bringing people together in this very sensitive moment in time, socially and politically.ā€

Ahead of the July 19 final, Shakira is also celebrating a major World Cup milestone on the charts. Her Burna Boy collaboration ā€œDai Dai (FIFA World Cup Official Song 2026)ā€ recently logged a second week at No. 1 on the Billboard Global Exclusive U.S. chart, becoming the first official FIFA World Cup anthem ever to top the ranking.

According to Luminate, the song also climbed to No. 3 on the Billboard Global 200, powered by 34.4 million streams and 4,000 sales outside the United States during the latest tracking week.

The historic first-ever World Cup final halftime show will take place during the championship match on Sunday, July 19. The 11-minute, Super Bowl-style spectacle will be broadcast live from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, with kickoff at 3 p.m. ET.
