The San Antonio Spurs are reportedly parting ways with play-by-play announcer Jacob Tobey after an alleged affair with a player’s sister was revealed on social media, according to a report from Front Office Sports
Tobey’s Instagram account was reportedly hacked on Tuesday, July 7, and a post on his Story claimed he cheated on his girlfriend of six years
Tobey has since made his Instagram and X accounts private
The San Antonio Spurs are reportedly parting ways with their play-by-play announcer Jacob Tobey after an alleged affair with a player’s sister.
According to a report from Front Office Sports on Thursday, July 9, Tobey, 29, is out as the Spurs’ announcer.
“Jacob Tobey is out as the Spurs’ play-by-play announcer after his girlfriend accused him of cheating on her with the sister of a player on the team, sources told FOS,” the outlet reported, adding, “Tobey’s girlfriend posted about the alleged affair on his Instagram story in the middle of the night.”
On Tuesday, July 7, Tobey’s Instagram account shared a Story that appeared to be posted by someone other than the Spurs announcer.
“This is my girlfriend of six years. But I cheated on her with Loren Waters. So feel free to continue following me if you really think I’m a good guy because I’m not. :),” the post said over a photo of Tobey and his now-ex-girlfriend.

A second post on Tobey’s account on Tuesday showed the announcer kissing a woman in a photo booth and said, “Me and the new girl LorenkWaters :).” Loren Waters is the sister of Spurs player Lindy Waters III.
The hacker, who most believe to be Tobey’s ex, also changed the caption of one of his posts — a photo of him singing the national anthem at a Spurs game — to “#cheater” on Tuesday, according to screenshots uploaded on X.

Screenshots of the posts quickly went viral on social media before Tobey deleted them.
Tobey has since made his Instagram and X accounts private. His LinkedIn profile also no longer appears active.
Waters’ Instagram account is also set to private.

PEOPLE has reached out to a rep for the San Antonio Spurs for comment.
Tobey joined the Spurs in October 2024, per his LinkedIn. Although the Spurs made it to the NBA Finals last season, Tobey did not call any of the Spurs’ series against the New York Knicks as national broadcasters replace local announcers for the Finals.
