Stevie Nicks' younger brother, Christopher Aaron Nicks, has died at age 72.

On Friday, September 4, the former Fleetwood Mac frontwoman's niece, Nixi Parkinson Nicks, born Jessica Nicks, announced her father's death in an Instagram post and on her story, explaining that Christopher died after a two and a half year cancer battle.

Nixi shared a photo of her holding her father's hand at his bedside and wrote, "second star to the right, and straight on till morning. i love you, daddy. rest easy." On her story, she shared a lengthier death aannouncement.

She wrote, "It is with a broken heart that I announce the passing of my father, Christopher Aaron Nicks, early this morning, surrounded by family.

"Some of you may know that he has spent the last 2.5 years battling a cancer diagnosis, and to some this may come as a shock. If this is news to you, please know it was because he never wanted people to worry about him that he kept this to himself."

Nixi continued, "I know that he has left his mark on so many people, and this will leave many more than his immediate family with a piece of them missing. I know I speak for my dad when I say that his friends, his lost boys, meant the world to him."

She concluded her message, "Rest easy, Coach. We will see you in Neverland." Stevie has not publicly commented on the death of her brother at the time of writing.

Christopher was five years younger than his sister. He welcomed Nixi with ex-wife, Lori Perry-Nicks, who was Stevie's former backing singer.

During a 2003 interview with You Magazine, Stevie admitted, "By the time I was five, I was a little diva. I was out of control, so my parents decided to have another child.

"I hated Chris, my brother. I would pull his hair and kick him, until one day my father gave him permission to fight back. I'll be apologizing to him for the rest of my life."

However, Stevie went on to have a tight relationship with Christopher. She added, "When I'm not touring, I live with my brother Chris, his wife Lori, and their daughter Jessie, in the house in Phoenix I've had since 1980.

"My parents live five minutes away. At Christmas I'll be home for six weeks. That's when I bond with my family. My mom collects my cuttings; Chris does my merchandizing and Lori is one of my backing singers.

"Chris sat with me when three girls were killed in a car crash after going to my show. I needed someone to tell me it was not my fault. Nobody but Chris could get that over to me."

During a 1986 interview (per In Her Words), Stevie said, "My family is... my family is so important to me that last night in the middle of the night I started to cry because I miss my brother, and I needed to call him, and I didn't have any phone numbers.

"I don't have anybody's phone number cause I don't have a book. I needed to talk to Christopher because I just needed for somebody to tell me that it's all OK, and yeah, my family is very, very important to me, and you are important to me, and all the people that come to see me are important to me."

Stevie recently dueted with Olivia Rodrigo at the inaugural edition of her music festival Daisy Chain Fields. The pair sang Stevie's hit Landslide.

After the pair stood together, Stevie spoke of their similarities. "She reminds me of me, when I was her age a hundred years ago," Stevie told the crowd.

"And I'm somewhat awestruck that she could do all this. Because it's so hard, you have no idea, putting this together with all of these people. And she's done it, with this grace."
