Joyce DeWitt, who starred in Three's Company with John Ritter, recalled her final moments with her co-star before his death in 2003.
DeWitt, 77, reflected on her time with Ritter, who died at 54 years old on September 11, 2003, from a sudden aortic dissection. DeWitt described their last moments together as "extraordinarily special" despite "not knowing that it would be the last time we would hang out together." She explained that the two of them met up because they were in the same area, something DeWitt learned through the paparazzi.
"If he had called one minute later, I would have been out walking to Lincoln Center on my way to a movie. I mean, it's like there was divine assistance in allowing us that time together," DeWitt stated. This follows DeWitt being spotted out in Los Angeles looking unrecognizable.

DeWitt and Ritter ended up dining with Jim Belushi. She described the outing as "such a good time." She dubbed the meal "dear" and "precious."
She described her relationship with Ritter in further detail at a gathering for the late actor's eponymous Foundation for Aortic Health's Evening From the Heart LA Gala. DeWitt complimented their on-screen chemistry.

"It's like we knew instantly, like if he swung high, I ducked low," she said, "If I ran low, he would swing high."
She described connecting and communicating "kinesthetically" with Ritter.

"We didn't even have to talk," she said of the actor. "My body knew what his body was going to do and his knew what mine was going to do. And that was just there from the moment that we met."
The two actors starred in Three's Company, a hit sitcom that aired on ABC for eight seasons, beginning in 1977. Ritter played Jack Tripper while DeWitt played Janet Wood. Other stars to feature in the show include Suzanne Somers, Norman Fell and Audra Lindley. DeWitt appreciates that the show is still loved to this day, calling it a "great joy" and a "great gift" to provide laughter.
"We were willing to do any stupid thing we could think of that we thought would make people laugh," she said of Three's Company.
"It didn't matter how stupid it was, we were willing to try it. And if it made them laugh, we felt good about it," continued DeWitt.
She described her beloved sitcom as a "safe place for grownups to play."
"They know that whatever disaster happens," she said. "by 9:30 everything's going to be fine."
