'Secret code' revealed for teaming up with other couples at Burning Man's Orgy Dome

Burning Man's Orgy Dome is a safe space for people to explore their sexuality, including hosting group experiences.

The Orgy Dome has been at Burning Man in Black Rock City, Nevada, for more than 20 years and gets plenty of visitors each year. The Orgy Dome acts as a safe, regulated and air-conditioned space for consenting adults to have fun.

There are some rules to follow inside the space, including making sure you turn up with at least one other participant, as the Orgy Dome has a strict "no-singles" policy. Once inside, however, people can team up with other willing couples and one past guest has opened up about some non-verbal codes you can use to see if others are interested.

Speaking to The Mirror US on condition of anonymity, the Burning Man reveler explained the Orgy Dome had "developed this little system of codes, so if you wanted to engage with other people, there was a non-verbal communication system in which you could do so."

The first step is to make eye contact with the other couple. Our source said once this was done, a simple wave would signal that you wanted to potentially join up.

"If they didn't wave back, then that was an, 'I'm not interested,'" the source explained. "If they waved back, you could do like a, come hither or, me and you sort of pointing fingers.

"If they gave a thumbs up that was like an, 'Okay.' If they gave a thumbs sideways, that was like an, 'I'm not sure,' which is a no. Thumbs down is also a no."

The Burning Man attendee also said the Orgy Dome organizers had other safety measures in place. They told us, "They also had security personnel rotating around the premises, making sure that nobody was trying to sneak in.

"Apparently one year a renegade group of individuals had decided that they were just going to slash through the tents in one corner and invade the space in mass, totally violating consent boundaries, claiming that it wasn't an inclusive space and so they were going to force inclusivity."

The organizers also had a disclaimer for guests to sign as they entered, which involved signing your name and adding the date and a signature. Our source said this was so guests could "agree and check each box that you are going to do all of this stuff."

They added, "And it created this wonderful safe space. It was really brilliant, really beautiful." The Mirror US also spoke to the Orgy Dome's organizers, who explained more about their safety procedures.

Those heading to the Orgy Dome must remember to take ID to prove they're over 18 and must not turn up under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Guests are also told to bring at least one other participant, as no single people are allowed in.

Orgy Dome organizer Maze explained, "We want an atmosphere where people are playing, and not walking around staring at people, or looking at people to pick up on. A lot of our guests, they don't want to be picked up on by singles, it's not a shopping atmosphere. So, that's why we create that kind of atmosphere."

Organizer Baby Jesus added, "One of our rules of consent is consent is specific, and that means, for example, if you go in there, and this is with your partner, and you sit down, and you start watching people play with each other, you need to ask for consent.

"We don't allow people to just sit down and enjoy the show. We're not there to put up a show, we're there for relationship building, consent, and just sitting down and looking at other people, that's not why we're there."

Explaining the other Orgy Dome rules, Baby Jesus urged visitors, "Bring your ID. You need to be 18 and up to be able to get in." Maze also said they won't allow people who are inebriated to enter the Orgy Dome.

Baby Jesus added, "We don't allow people who are clearly under the influence of whatever. We also keep an eye on people who are there, but don't want to be there. We don't just explain that to people, we also have staff in there, keeping an eye on the safety of our campers, and that the rules of consent are being followed."
